چکیده
• Objective: To evaluate the available evidence supporting the use of albumin for diagnosis and treatment of hepatorenal syndrome (HRS). • Methods: We searched MEDLINE, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Library for articles published in English between 1966 and March 2013. To evaluate the role of albumin in the diagnosis of HRS, we looked for trials comparing albumin to other plasma expanders. To evaluate the role of albumin in the treatment of HRS, we looked for trials comparing vasoconstrictor plus albumin to vasoconstrictor

Albumin treatment regimen for type 1 hepatorenal syndrome: a dose–response meta-analysis
BACKGROUND Recommended treatment for type 1 hepatorenal syndrome consists of albumin and vasoconstrictor. The optimal albumin dose remains poorly characterized. This meta-analysis aimed to determine the impact of albumin dose on treatment outcomes. METHODS Clinical studies of type 1 hepatorenal syndrome treatment with albumin and vasoconstrictor were sought. Search terms included: hepatorenal...

متن کاملTerlipressin and albumin vs albumin in patients with cirrhosis and hepatorenal syndrome: a randomized study.
BACKGROUND & AIMS Hepatorenal syndrome is common in patients with advanced cirrhosis and constitutes a major problem in liver transplantation. There is no effective medical treatment for hepatorenal syndrome. METHODS Forty-six patients with cirrhosis and hepatorenal syndrome, hospitalized in a tertiary care center, were randomly assigned to receive either terlipressin (1-2 mg/4 hour, intraven...

Hepatorenal syndrome is complication of advanced cirrhosis characterized by renal failure, changes in systemic blood pressure, and increased activity of endogenous vasoactive systems. Renal failure is due to severe renal vasoconstriction developing in the late stages of cirrhosis. The pathogenesis of hepatorenal syndrome is the result of an extreme underfilling of the arterial circulation secon...
متن کاملAlbumin infusion in liver cirrhotic patients.
Albumin infusions have been used for many years in the management of patients with decompensated cirrhosis in an attempt to reduce the formation of ascites, to improve circulatory and renal function, or in SBP patients. While some of these indications for albumin infusions are supported by the results of randomised studies, others are based on clinical experience and have not been proved in pro...
